The LaliT celebrates love, identity, and the beauty of belonging through a new book on queer stories
In a celebration of individuality, acceptance, and the freedom to be loved for who you are, Hospitality with a Heart brings together personal stories that remind us that the most meaningful spaces are those where everyone belongs.
Love, in its most beautiful form, makes room for individuality. It allows people to be themselves without hesitation, to feel accepted without explanation, and to find comfort in knowing they are valued for exactly who they are. Beyond grand gestures and declarations, it is often this quiet reassurance that makes all the difference.
On October 31, The LaLiT Suri Hospitality Group unveiled Hospitality with a Heart, a book bringing together personal stories from its queer team members. Written by Amrita Tripathi, with an introduction by Keshav Suri, Executive Director of The LaLiT Suri Hospitality Group, the publication explores identity, acceptance, and the importance of creating spaces where everyone has the freedom to belong.
The book was launched at the Crystal Ballroom at The LaLiT New Delhi, bringing together its contributors and guests for an evening centred on empathy, inclusion, and the many ways in which acceptance can shape our experiences.
The beauty of being accepted for who you are
Every individual deserves the freedom to be themselves without having to fit into someone else's idea of who they should be. Through the stories in Hospitality with a Heart, this sentiment takes centre stage, with contributors reflecting on experiences of navigating expectations, challenging labels, and finding acceptance.
For The LaLiT, this understanding extended beyond representation in the workplace. The group recognised the importance of creating an environment where people could feel comfortable, respected, and supported. This led to revised workplace policies and processes, gender-affirming healthcare support, Employee Resource Groups, and wider initiatives for queer team members.
Because feeling accepted should never depend on how much of yourself you are willing to change for others.
When the little things mean the most
Speaking about her experience of writing the book, Tripathi shared that she initially expected to hear stories about diversity, equity, inclusion, and queer leadership. Instead, she encountered deeply personal accounts of isolation, bullying, and the pressure to conform.
What stayed with her was how much the smallest gestures could matter. Being addressed by the right name, being acknowledged without judgement, and having the comfort of showing up as your whole self can make a world of difference.
Through the publication, Tripathi hopes readers will connect with the people behind the stories, understand their experiences in their own words, and feel encouraged to become more thoughtful allies.
A more inclusive understanding of hospitality
At the launch, journalist Faye D'Souza moderated a panel featuring Tripathi, Rithik Hukku, Shaurya, and Shruti. The discussion explored empathy, inclusion, and how the idea of hospitality can extend far beyond welcoming someone through the doors of a hotel.
For Keshav Suri, hospitality is ultimately about making people feel that they belong. He emphasised that genuine acceptance means not having to leave a part of yourself behind to be welcomed into a space.
While decriminalisation was an important step forward, equality requires continued effort, particularly when it comes to building workplaces where people can express their identities freely and without fear.
A celebration that embraces every identity
The stories in Hospitality with a Heart also connect with the group's wider initiatives, including She Leads, the Aditya Nanda Scholarship, Project Prahari, and Apna Heera. These programmes extend their support to LGBTQIA+ persons, acid attack survivors, persons with disabilities, and neurodivergent individuals.
The book was unveiled by Dr Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson and Managing Director of The LaLiT Suri Hospitality Group, alongside the group's Executive Directors, Tripathi, D'Souza, and the featured team members. The evening also featured a performance by Hash Brownie in line with Kitty Su Beauty.
At its heart, Hospitality with a Heart celebrates something that should be a given: the freedom to be loved, respected, and accepted without having to explain or justify who you are. Its stories remind us that belonging is built through compassion, understanding, and the willingness to make room for every individual's experience.
Whether in the relationships we cherish, the families we build, or the communities we find along the way, the greatest expression of acceptance is being able to show up as yourself and know that you are welcome.
