Quinn and Tanmaye's cross-cultural wedding became a spectacular celebration at Jodhpur's Umaid Bhawan Palace
With guests arriving from across the globe, Indian and Western traditions came together through design, rituals, and unforgettable experiences.
When Quinn Charles and Tanmaye Bhatia began planning their wedding, they knew it had to reflect the worlds they came from and the life they had built together. She grew up in Santa Monica and built a career in the art world, most recently as a director at a New York gallery. He grew up in New Delhi and works in venture capital after studying in the United States. The two met in Brooklyn in 2020, and what followed was a relationship shaped by curiosity and a shared appreciation for culture and storytelling.
Before the wedding came an intimate proposal in New York. Under the guise of a work dinner, Bhatia brought Charles to the courtyard of The Greenwich Hotel, where he proposed with an oval yellow diamond. What she thought would be a quiet evening soon turned into a surprise engagement celebration with family and close friends who had secretly flown in for the occasion.
For the wedding, the couple chose Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, as they wanted to honour Bhatia’s Rajasthani heritage while embracing the grandeur and history of one of India's most iconic palaces. More than 300 guests travelled from India, the United States, Europe, Africa, and Latin America to attend the celebrations, with many experiencing a Hindu or Christian wedding for the very first time.
The festivities began with a spectacular sangeet at Mehrangarh Fort. Guests made their way through the historic fort during a 90-minute immersive procession featuring dancers, puppeteers, musicians, and performers before arriving at the main celebration. The haldi followed with an all-white dress code and ended with the couple covered in turmeric and flower petals.
One of the most anticipated moments was the late-night Hindu wedding ceremony. Dressed in a Sabyasachi lehenga, Charles descended the palace steps as the pheras began after midnight, creating a cinematic moment against the backdrop of the illuminated palace. The celebrations continued with a vibrant Bahu Swagat, where she surprised guests with a solo Ghoomar performance in honour of her husband’s heritage. A Rajasthani fair featuring local artisans and crafts brought another layer of cultural immersion to the festivities.
The following evening, the couple hosted a Christian wedding ceremony. It was officiated by a longtime family friend and allowed guests to experience another important part of the couple’s shared story.
Charles wore designs by Anamika Khanna, Tarun Tahiliani, and Sabyasachi, before changing into a vintage 1999 gown by Reem Acra for the Christian ceremony. Bhatia wore ensembles by Sabyasachi and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for the Indian celebrations and a custom suit for the Christian wedding.
Hand-drawn illustrations inspired by Indian textiles appeared on keepsakes, silk scarves, pocket squares, and even palace projections. A live artist captured the couple each day, while curated culinary experiences showcased flavours from across India and beyond.
The result was a wedding that brought together heritage, artistry, faith, and family in a way that felt like it was always meant to be.
