Inside Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Sharan Sharma's intimate sunset wedding in Mumbai
From a surprise proposal in pyjamas to handwritten vows at sunset, the couple kept every moment personal and meaningful.
Actor Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and filmmaker Sharan Sharma officially tied the knot on July 11, 2026, in an intimate and heartfelt ceremony. The couple got married on the exact date they had started dating four years ago, making the occasion even more special. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they exchanged handwritten vows in a ceremony that reflected their relationship in every way.
Kapoor and Sharma's love story began with a little help from a mutual friend who introduced them over Instagram. They later met at a friend's birthday party, where they instantly connected. What started as a friendship soon turned into love, leading them to this new chapter together.
The proposal was just as personal as the wedding. Sharma planned what Kapoor believed was a quiet birthday getaway to Alibaug. Instead, he surprised her with a proposal in the comfort of their pyjamas, with 'Angel' by Jack Johnson playing in the background. The song became even more meaningful when it was included in their wedding ceremony.
The celebrations began with an intimate pre-wedding party at 38 Manhattan at The St Regis, Mumbai. Kapoor chose a dusty pink Manish Malhotra ensemble, while Sharma complemented her look in a burgundy outfit by the designer.
Their wedding ceremony took place in the garden of their apartment building during sunset. Instead of a traditional setup, the couple exchanged handwritten vows before signing their marriage certificate in front of their loved ones. Heartfelt speeches, acoustic music, and a champagne toast completed the evening.
For the wedding, Kapoor wore a custom vintage-inspired red saree by Arpita Mehta, while Sharma opted for an ivory kurta paired with a bundi jacket by Manish Malhotra. Speaking about creating the bridal look, Mehta shared that Kapoor wanted something "simple yet memorable" that felt beautiful, minimal and rich in detail.
"With this thought in mind, we set out to create a print that felt soft, feminine, and romantic. Inspired by pressed flowers and their delicate beauty preserved long after they've bloomed, the print is a celebration of memories that endure. Just as pressed flowers become keepsakes, we wanted her wedding saree to become a treasured heirloom, carrying the emotion of her special day for years to come," Mehta shared.
"The saree is adorned with intricate vintage dull-gold floral embroidery, complemented by delicate Falisa work and our signature tiny mirror embellishments. Completing the ensemble was a delicately woven Banarasi drape, adding depth, heritage, and timeless elegance to the contemporary bridal keepsake," the designer added.
The celebrations concluded with a reception at the JW Marriott Mumbai, where the couple celebrated with family, close friends, and members of the film industry. Thoughtfully planned from beginning to end, Kapoor and Sharma's wedding proved that the most memorable celebrations are often the ones that stay true to the couple at the centre of them.
