How Rohan and Aerandee brought two cultures together in one dreamy wedding
From meeting as students overseas to celebrating their union across India and Australia, Rohan and Aerandee ’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of the life they built together.
Some love stories begin in a hometown. Rohan Cheerala and Aerandee Kannangara’s started thousands of miles away from home.
The couple first met as medical students in Malaysia. Far from their families and familiar surroundings, they found comfort in each other during long days of study, challenging exams, and the excitement of living in a new country. What began as friendship slowly grew into something deeper as they spent more time together, sharing conversations, experiences, and a growing sense of connection.
Their journey continued in the United Kingdom, where a new chapter of their relationship unfolded. Together, they navigated demanding careers, built a life side by side, and embraced every opportunity to explore the world around them. Between work and study, they travelled extensively, discovering new cities, experiencing different cultures, and creating memories that would shape not only who they were as individuals but also who they were as a couple.
Over the years, their relationship was strengthened by every challenge, milestone, and adventure they shared. Living abroad taught them resilience, adaptability, and the importance of having someone constant by your side no matter where life takes you.
Eventually, they made their way back closer to home, settling in Sydney. By then, they carried with them years of experiences gathered across continents, along with a relationship that had grown stronger with every move and every new beginning.
When it came time to plan their wedding, it was only natural that the celebrations would reflect the many places, cultures, and traditions that had shaped their story. Rather than choosing one identity over another, they embraced every part of who they were.
Their Indian Hindu wedding took place at the magnificent Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. Surrounded by family, friends, and centuries of history, the ceremony honoured tradition while celebrating the journey that had brought them together. The grandeur of the palace provided a stunning setting for rituals that connected generations and paid tribute to their heritage.
The celebrations then continued in Sydney, where they hosted a vibrant Buddhist wedding ceremony and reception. It was homecoming filled with laughter, music, and the warmth of loved ones who had supported them throughout the years. Family and friends from different parts of the world came together to celebrate not only a marriage but also the life the couple had built across countries and cultures.
As a Sri Lankan and Indian couple, Rohan and Aerandee never felt the need to choose between traditions. Instead, they created celebrations that reflected both their backgrounds and their shared experiences. Their wedding felt deeply personal, bringing together old customs, modern lives, and the spirit of adventure that has defined their relationship from the very beginning.
Today, the couple call Sydney home. With a lifetime of memories already behind them and countless adventures still ahead, they begin this new chapter the same way they started their journey years ago: together.
