Do you want to spend take your four-legged companion along on a vacation, but are scared or unsure how to go about it? Are you thinking about the several ways this could go wrong; the destination might not be pet tolerant, the pet might get sick during the trip or might start acting out. If you feel so, we have some trustworthy tips for you and your lovely companions.

Pack your pet’s medical papers with you

First things first, you must pack your pet's vaccination and medical documents, if you are planning to take a vacation with your pet overseas. There can be times when you would have to produce these documents in front of the authorities as every country has different, and mostly stringent laws about a pet's entry on their land. The medical history may come in handy if you might have to make an emergency visit to the vet while on vacation. This way the vet would give the best possible treatment to your friend.

Choose a destination with your pet in mind

While planning your trip, do thorough research. Many destinations are not very pet friendly and will not allow you to have your pet in most restaurants or parks. Countries like Japan and New Zealand are some extremely pet-friendly destinations to enjoy with your four-legged friends.

Book pet-friendly accommodation

Once you have chosen a destination, you need to look for pet-friendly accommodation. Almost all hotels state if they entertain pets or not in their hotel policies. Do read the policy carefully as there are times when hotels allow pets but have restrictions on their weight and size. If you feel hotels are not for you, you can opt for an Airbnb or a rental. When you are finally in the accommodation, ensure you pet-proof the space; this includes blocking electric points near the floor and putting all your groceries in a place where they cannot reach them.

Look for pet activities around

Do look for pet-related activities in your chosen destinations. This is especially for people who have dogs as they need a lot of exercise. You can go on treks or go to a pet-friendly beach or parks, to ensure your pets, too, have fun on this vacation. You can also look up restaurants that serve pet food.

Be patient

Travelling with pets requires a lot of patience. They might act out or become difficult to manage, but do be understanding of them. Traveling is a stressful experience for pets as they might get anxious. So, be there to comfort them in any way you can and give them lots of treats and cuddles!
