Twitter Rages Over Scarlett Johansson's Met Gala Gown Designed By Harvey Weinstein's Ex

In an unprecedented move, ‘Avengers’ star Scarlett Johansson wore a Marchesa gown to the Met Gala, a brand owned by Harvey Weinstein’s ex wife Georgina Chapman. After sexual abuse allegations against the producer triggered the #MeToo campaign against similar perpetrators, Chapman filed for divorce from the producer. However, some have questioned her absence of knowledge in these cases. The female stars if Weinstein’s films have also claimed he insisted they wear Marchesa designs on the red carpet, a move that has led to the meteoric rise of the brand.
This is the first time after the Weinstein scandal that someone of Scarlett’s stature has worn Marchesa on the red carpet. Blogger Perez Hilton expressed his displeasure on Twitter by calling Scarlett an “upper east side housewife” who “played it wrong”.
While some trashed her choice of designer, there were others who felt the actor completely missed the brief of the Met Gala this year, which is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
