After 20 years in service, Colette, the Parisian store and longstanding temple of cool, bids adieu to the world towards the end of 2017.

Colette, the renowned Parisian boutique, closed down after 20 years, yesterday (December, 20th). The boutique was founded in 1997 by Colette Roussaux on Paris’ rue Saint Honoré street - spanning across three floors and 8,000 square feet of retail space - and was led by her daughter Sarah Andelman in the recent years. Sarah was well-known for discerning fashion edits and a quirky mix of lifestyle products that had turned the store into one of Paris’ premiere fashion pit-stops.

Drawn to an eclectic mix of high fashion and edgy street labels alike, she regularly showcased designs from up-and-coming designers and was one of the first to stock collections by Proenza Schouler, Mary Katrantzou, Simone Rocha, and Rodarte. The store even stocked still and sparkling water from premium brands - at least 100 of them - like Evian and Perrier to name a few. In a press release published on the brand’s website, Sarah Edelman said, “As all good things must come to an end, and after 20 wonderful years, Colette should be closing its doors on December 20th.” “Colette Roussaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time; and Colette cannot exist without Colette,” she said, referring to the store requiring its founder.

“I know people think it’s crazy that we decided to close rather than sell the name, because it has value, but we knew if someone else ran it, it would not be the same,” noting it had been a very emotional day for her. “The messages we have received have been so many, and full of so much love,” she concluded.
