Here's Everything You Need To Know About The Royal Wedding
From the wedding venue, to the star-studded guest list, here's bringing to you everything that you need to know about the royal wedding of the year.
By now, we are sure that the entire world is talking about the royal wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. And the best part? It’s not even a month away, which inevitably means that we are losing our sh*t. After all, it is the most awaited wedding of 2018—a date that has been broadcasted the most number of times, and with good reason.
If you, like us, are trying to get hold of every teeny-tiny detail from the ongoing royal wedding preps, this is it. From the guesswork behind Markle’s list of bridesmaids to the tight guest list, here’s bringing to you everything that you need to know about this royal wedding.
1. The Date
So the official date for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding is May 19th, 2018, as announced by Kensington Palace on Twitter. Although royal weddings take place on weekdays (cases in point: the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge married on a Friday and the Queen on a Thursday), the couple have decided to marry on a Saturday, which goes against the tradition.
Interestingly, their wedding date clashes with the FA Cup finals, that Prince Harry’s best man, Prince William attends as the president of the Football Association. The May wedding also gives the Duchess of Cambridge a while to recover after the birth of her third child, Louis Arthur Charles on April 23rd.
2. Holiday or Not?
Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s decision to marry on May 19th eliminates the issue of whether or not the royal wedding should be a bank holiday. Previously, to celebrate the weddings of Prince Charles to Diana Spencer in 1981, Prince William to Catherine Middleton in 2011, and Princess Anne to Mark Phillips in 1973, a public holiday was declared.
To mark the grand occasion, pub timings might be extended to 1am on Saturday. 'I hope that relaxation of the licensing hours will allow people to extend their festivities and come together to mark what will be a very special moment for the country,' said the home secretary.
3. The Wedding Gift
All those looking to mark the occasion of Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle can do so in the form of donations to seven charitable organisations, specified by Kensington Palace on Twitter.
4. The Venue
The royal wedding will take place in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle at 12pm. With the Queen’s permission, the ceremony will be held in the place of worship, that can accommodate nearly 800 guests. Also, all major aspects of the wedding, including the service, music, flowers, decorations and the reception will be paid for by the royal family.
5. The Guest List
Unlike the 1,900 guests in attendance at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding, a small crowd of 600 guests will be present at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding. Plus, since he is sixth in line to the throne, it’s not compulsory to invite diplomats globally for their wedding.
Now, coming to the actual guest list. Considering that both the bride and the groom have A-lister pals, the wedding’s bound to boast of a handful of celebrities. Among Prince Harry's friends, Guy Pelly, Owen Inskip, Lizzy Wilson, and Arthur Landon are expected whereas in case of Markle, her close friend, Priyanka Chopra, along with Jessica Mulroney, Misha Nonoo, Janina Gavankar and Abigail Spencer are supposed to be present.
6. The Wedding Dress Designer
Although there has been no confirmation as to what designer she will be donning on her D-day, her engagement portraits suggest that it could again be a British couturier, maybe Michael Russo and Tamara Ralph (they also designed the intricately crafted gown that she wore to pose alongside her fiancé in) or Christopher Bailey. Guess we'll have to wait.
7. The Bridesmaids
It's likely that the royals have already picked out their page boy and flower girl—Prince George and Princess Charlotte respectively. But what’s a wedding without the bride choosing her bridesmaids? Markle is expected to choose from her intimate circle of friends. Actor Priyanka Chopra, tennis champion Serena Williams, designer Misha Nonoo, and stylist Jessica Mulroney are all names suggested for Markle’s bridesmaidship.
There you go. Now you're royal wedding-ready.
