7 Reasons We Love The #Virushka Wedding!
The most celebrated couple this year, Virat and Anushka’s wedding was an affair to remember. And here’s why we are so smitten!
When news broke that Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma married Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, ardent fans and followers across the country could not hold their excitement! The couple married in a hush-hush ceremony in a quaint villa in Tuscany amongst their closest friends and family. The couple back from their European mini-moon, hosted a reception in New Delhi where PM Narendra Modi was in attendance. The royal reception, held in The St. Regis Mumbai, was a star-studded affair with Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Katrina Kaif, Rekha, Kangana Ranaut, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Lara Dutta Bhupathi, Vaani Kapoor and ace cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni with wife Sakshi Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Virender Sehwag, and Zaheer Khan in attendance to congratulate the newlyweds. And we were too! (virtually, of course).
The Location
The couple got married in Borgo Finocchieto. Situated on six acres of hilltop grounds, 30 minutes south of Siena, it is a dream wedding destination.
The Outfits
Anushka Sharma chose to wear a bright vividly-hued Sabyasachi lehenga and blouse giving it a very laidback vibe. The bride and groom wore custom-made Sabyasachi ensembles and jewellery for all the events. From the floral look at the mehendi to the pastel lehenga she wore for the pheras, Sharma made a stunning bride, and was complemented by a dapper Kohli in coordinated outfits. For engagement day, she opted for a velvet lehenga with a Gulkand Burgundy border with hand-embroidered pearls and finest quality zardozi.
The Décor
The décor for the wedding was done by ace wedding designer Devika Narain & Co., who created a whimsical setting in a palette of lavender, soft pink and powder blue — just the perfect dream wedding setting. Pastel flowers stole the thunder at the wedding ceremony of the star couple, and everything from Anushka’s embroidered soft pink lehenga to the fresh hydrangeas that she sported in her hair during the nuptials came together in a coherent, seamless aesthetic in the wedding of the year.
The Jewellery
She completed her look with a stunning uncut diamond and pearl choker with matching studs, kohl-rimmed eyes, red roses, and micro dot bindi. The bridal jewellery (necklace, earrings, and mathapatti) was handcrafted with syndicate uncut diamonds, pale pink spinel, and baroque Japanese cultured pearls.
The Gajra
In the backdrop of lush Tuscan Hydrangeas, the bride wore fresh peonies in her hair. A refreshing change from the usual tuebroses worn in traditional gajras.
The Gift
While there was a shower of good wishes and blessings for the couple, the guests were also greeted with a great deal of warmth and a nicely designed hamper of assorted goodies. The St. Regis Mumbai was brilliantly decked up for Virushka's reception and so were the gift hampers for the guests. Photos of the gift hamper made their way to social media ahead of the reception and have been shared by fan-clubs of the couple. 'Best compliments from Sharma and Kohli family,' reads the note attached to the basket, a closer look at which reveals some of its contents - dark chocolate, toasties, cookies and more. An anthology of his poems was given as a take back present for all the guests.
The Dance
Virat Kohli and his newly-wed wife Anushka Sharma danced their heart out at their reception party in New Delhi on December 21.Kohli, seen dancing with Anushka at Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge's wedding reception, let his hair down at his own party as Shikhar Dhawan joined him on the dance floor.
