How they met

Caught up in their careers, Rajbir and Jasnena first connected through online dating. A simple match and back-and-forth over messages, followed by hours-long conversations over the phone led them to realise their special connection—despite being on opposite sides of the country! After a few months of getting to know each other, they spent a weekend together in Chicago, which is where their story truly began. Over the next few years, they flew across the country to spend every possible free weekend with each other. And the rest, as they say, is history.

The next step

After a couple of years of navigating the challenges of a long-distance relationship while keeping up with their busy professional lives, it was time to take the leap of faith. Truth be told, Raj knew Jasnena was the one for him since their first weekend together in Chicago two years ago, even though he tried to play it cool. “She provides the perfect balance of strength and tenderness, resilience and vulnerability. She quickly became my best friend, always finding a way to make me laugh. I knew early on that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I’m so happy she said yes,” Raj says.

Leading up to the big day

“Planning the wedding was a lot of fun for us, though we had to navigate the uncharted waters of the pandemic. Before the wedding, we couldn’t travel much internationally to find the right outfits. Thankfully, we were able to work with some very talented designers such as Cherie D, Jade by MK and Shyamal & Bhumika, who were able to tackle the challenges and help bring our vision to life through their unique styles. At one point, we were also concerned that our family from other countries would not be able to travel for the wedding, but fortunately, things worked out and we are so grateful for that.”

Memories that will last a lifetime

“The lasting impression of our wedding was being able to celebrate our love with everyone else we loved—family and friends alike. At every event, we were surrounded by people we cared about and those who were instrumental in helping us become the people we are today. It was such a joy to share this with all of them.”

Their advice

“For marriage, it’s so important to find someone who shares the same values. This is the foundation of any marriage. From there, you can grow together through shared experiences and honest, open communication. Ultimately, the best advice we can give to those planning a wedding is to start early, prioritise what’s important and communicate openly with your partner about expectations and desires. Above all else, make sure to have fun and enjoy the events as it goes by quickly.”
