Spring bridal makeup tips from a celebrity MUA

Think of spring, and you immediately think of fresh florals and vibrant blooms. This season, spring bridal makeup mirrors these hues from nature and at the same time embraces a modern, effortless look, focussing on radiant, fresh skin with vibrant pops of colour. So, pastel eyeshadows, juicy lip shades, and dewy skin, all with an emphasis on clean, natural beauty. A lesson in pastels

Celebrity makeup artist Meghna Butani, who creates stunning looks for the likes of Malaika Arora, Tamannah Bhatia, Tabu, and many others, gives us a lowdown on this season’s spring bridal makeup trends. She says, “For the eyes, pastels are in this spring, but more so for a bride’s day functions like haldi, welcome lunches, daytime pheras, or a pool party. In fact, this is where a pastel eyeliner can be used to add a pop of colour.” 

Glamorous evenings

Butani shares that soft, satiny finish eyeshadows are trending as opposed to metallic gold and bronze tones, especially during the day. “For brides who are wearing earthy rich tones or darker hues for their evening functions, they can play with the mocha mousse palette of rich, warm browns, which continues to be on trend this season as well.” She also adds that while a black winged eyeliner is timeless, this season coloured eyeliners are making a comeback, with burgundy eyeliner especially being very in this season.

From lips to cheeks

When it comes to the lips, a spring bride can ditch the classic bold lip and focus on a berry pout instead. “Bitten lips are also in this spring versus the old technique of using a lip liner and filling in the lips with colour. Here, lip colour is applied with the fingertips and diffused into the lip.” Try velvety mattes, tints, and satin-sheen lipsticks—all of which are making a splash this season. Brides can opt for pinks, corals, and nude pink-browns that suit their skin tones. “One can even pair a berry lip with cherry coke nails to take the look from day to night,” suggests Butani. Peaches and pinks continue to dominate the blush world this spring, but lilac blushes are the new rage you can experiment with for that dreamy, romantic look!

The freshest base for spring

For the base, think balmy skin, more satin, and soft-focused looks. “An airbrush effect is in this season compared to the doughnut glaze that was trending earlier,” says Butani. She adds that products that are water-based will work better than oil- or silicone-based products, and a setting spray can be used to mist the face before and after makeup so it lasts longer.

•    Butani advises carrying a pH lip and cheek tint that uses your skin’s pH to change colour.
•    A refreshing face mist, rose water, or a setting spray is perfect for a quick pick-me-up.
•    Blotting papers are great if you can’t carry a compact in your bridal potli.
•    Cakey compact is out, says Butani. So just buff the skin with a buffing brush and some loose powder to remove excess oil.
•    Can’t find a specific colour of liquid eyeliner? Just dampen an angled brush in setting spray, dip it into the eyeshadow of your choice, and swipe it on!
