Treat your hair to these home-made hair conditioners
Say hello to hydration galore!
Considering how saturated the world of beauty is, it can get extremely confusing to pick products that will work for your skin and hair and not cause further damage. Hence, sometimes it just seems easier to take a page out of your grandmother’s book of DIY hacks. Even though you don’t have time to make homemade oils like she used to, you can treat your mane to a conditioning mask that you can make from everyday ingredients found in your kitchen cabinets.
These hair conditioners tackle all problems from dry and brittle hair, to strands with colour damage. Take your pick.
Egg and olive oil
This homemade hair conditioner is a classic for a reason. The protein in eggs repairs damaged hair while olive oil aids moisturisation. To make this, mix two eggs with three tablespoons of olive oil. Apply this mixture to your hair, let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse.
Egg yolk conditioner
Eggs are fantastic for deeply nourishing your hair and restoring its shine. This hair mask is a blessing for anyone with dry, damaged hair.
Mix two yolks with two teaspoons of olive oil (olive oil has ultra-hydrating properties). To make the paste simpler to apply, you can add extra water. After dividing your hair into smaller portions, apply the mask in layers. After that, put on a shower cap and leave it for a couple of hours. The final step entails thoroughly washing it off with shampoo and conditioner.
Banana and honey
While banana softens the hair, honey adds shine. This mask is for if your hair is dry and dull. Blend one ripe banana with two tablespoons of honey. Apply the mixture to your hair, leave it for 15-20 minutes, then rinse. A note of warning: wash your hair thoroughly as bananas are notorious for clinging on.
Bananas and olive oil
Both bananas and olive oil are fantastic for skin and hair. Blend 1 tablespoon of olive oil and a banana till they resemble a purée. Apply it all over your hair, let it sit for 30 minutes, then shampoo it off. One of the greatest natural conditioners for dry hair and one of the best home treatments for dry hair.
Curd and honey
The strong lactic content of curd is good for split ends and dry, damaged hair. Because honey is a humectant, it draws moisture into the cuticles of your hair, leaving them silky, smooth, and shiny.
Mix 5 tbsp of raw honey with curd or, depending on the length of your hair. Apply the mask in layers. Dry, damaged hair can say goodbye when you wash it off after 30 minutes.
Coconut milk and avocado
Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Your hair will think so, too. Coconut milk and avocado are rich in fats and oils that deeply moisturise the hair. Make this by blending half an avocado with a cup of coconut milk. Apply to your hair, let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinse.
Moisturising molasses mask
This mask will nourish and soothe every single strand of dry and damaged hair. Take half cup of molasses, one egg yolk, and one-fourth cup of mashed avocado. Mix to form a thick paste, apply from root to the tip, and leave for one hour.
Yoghurt and mayonnaise
Before you scrunch your brows together, hear us out. Yoghurt and mayonnaise have proteins and fats that are beneficial for the hair. They hydrate and repair damage. Mix half a cup of plain yoghurt with half a cup of mayonnaise. Apply to your hair, leave it for 20 minutes, then rinse.
