Looking to avoid dehydrated, dry skin and peel offs? Brides Today got in touch with some dermatologists and skincare experts who have a gamut of advice to share with us. A sudden drop in temperature is responsible for loss of hydration in the skin, consequently disrupting the skin's barrier and causing dryness. 'The skin is highly vulnerable to irritation and inflammation, thereby making it imperative to take certain steps', informs Dr Pooja Chhabra. The changing seasons extracts moisture from the skin, leaving it dry and dull. Similarly, brutal winds and dry air can also negatively impact the skin and complexion, leaving it rough, red, tightened, cracked or peeling, according to Dr Simal Soin.

Keeping this in mind, ways to protect the skin from the ongoing winter season is the need of the hour. This urged us to get in touch with the experts within this field. So, buckle up and hold on tight for the upcoming beauty rules you shall swear by.

WATER SHOULD BE YOUR BEST FRIEND

Dr Simal Soin reminds us that consumption of water shouldn't solely be a summer ritual, but a winter one too. To make sure that your skin is healthy and hydrated, one must drink upto 8-10 glasses of water daily, advocates Dr Pooja Chhabra.

AVOID HOT SHOWERS

Extraction of oils from the skin is not something you want, as it can dry your skin even further, notes Dr Simal Soin. To avoid the same, she suggests using mild soaps, while Dr Geetika Mittal advocates bathing with tepid water and using body oils, to make up up for the dehydration. As per Dr Pooja Chhabra, face oils rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants, must be used.

DO A CLEANSE

Cleansing and exfoliation is a must when it comes to skincare. Dr Geetika Mittal advocates using a creamy filorga HA face wash or bioderma atoderm face wash. Moisturising body and face cleansers like Dermaceutic Hyal intense, Creme Lavante, Nutratopic bath gel should also be used.

USE SERUMS

Since serums contain the most concentrated, hard-hitting dose of skincare, they are often able to override and alleviate dryness. Antioxidant serums containing retinol, Vitamin C, Vitamin E , coenzyme Q10, AHA's and BHA's should be used, according to Dr Simal Soin and Dr Pooja Chhabra.

MOISTURISE, MOISTURISE AND MOISTURISE

'With the weather constantly changing, it would be a good idea to repeatedly moisturise, especially within 3-5 minutes of bathing', says Dr Simal Soin. Moisturisers containing ceramides, squalene, colloidal oatmeal, urea should be relied upon. She goes on suggest a few moisturisers including Xemose , Nutratopic Moisturising lotion and Hydramoist. However, one must keep in mind that they use a moisturiser that is in accordance with their skin type. Under eye creams must be used before sleeping and should be incorporated into the daily skincare routine.

INVEST IN A GOOD FACE MASK

Consider investing in a good face mask, as it helps restore hydration in the skin, along with clearing your pores. Besides soothing the skin, it can spring back your skin to its youthful glory in just a few minutes. Dr Geetika Mittal suggests using a Sheet mask, Clay mask, Sleeping mask, Filorga meso mask or laniege water essence face mask, that helps maximise hydration.

USE A SPF AT ALL TIMES

Dr Pooja Chhabra asserts that one must use an SPF even if they don't plan to step out in the sun. A broad-spectrum moisturising sunscreen with SPF 30+ is an ideal pick.

KEEP A LIP BALM HANDY

Winters don't solely impact the skin, but also the lips, making it essential to keep them hydrated as well. A fragrance-free lip balm composed of ingredients like white petroleum jelly, shea butter, dimethicone or hemp seed oil, along with SPF is perfect to keep the lips hydrated and avoid peeling.

GO FOR AN OXYGEN FACIAL

'A treatment popularly known as the red-carpet facial, uses the purity of oxygen to help infuse hydrating and brightening serums into the skin leaving it luminous and smooth', states Dr Simal Soin.

Besides making use of specific face products and procedures, flower ingredients such as hibiscus, lavender and chamomile are rich in linoleic acid and tocopherols, which help protect the skin's barrier and boosting hydration. Brides and grooms must consult a dermatologist who can help them curate a skincare routine for the winter months, based on their skin type. Despite skincare being a top priority all through the year, it gains heightened importance during the harsh winters, and for good reason. Therefore, it wouldn't hurt to use some expert advice at this point in time.
