Remembering de GRISOGONO's Crazy Skull Watch On Their 25th Anniversary
A true celebration of life in all its glory, we remember when de GRISOGONO put the 'crazy' in their Crazy Skull watch series!
The skull theme has been explored often in the modern and contemporary world of art and fashion. Playing with the theme, in 2015, de GRISOGONO revealed the Crazy Skull watch series as a celebration of the magnificence of life, urging people to live it to the fullest. Often perceived as a provocative symbol, it also has positive and thoughtful meanings such as change, courage, bravery, non-conformity and free-thinking. Creative director and CEO of de grisogono, Fawaz Gruosi's eclectic sense of design that constantly pushes all boundaries, is easily witnessed in the creation of this timepiece.
de GRISOGONO's Crazy Skull watch actually smiles at the world with a beautiful set of teeth fashioned from 7.70 carats of sparkling white baguette-cut diamonds. The skull is snow-set with 890 white or black diamonds - or rubies, depending on your taste - and the nose is represented by a heart-cut white diamond weighing 1.50 carats. The fun really begins when the mechanism to open the jaw is activated and the Crazy Skull watch mischievously sticks out its pretty pink sapphire or ruby tongue - a mechanism that took nine months to perfect. It is a bespoke object of art that showcases the brand's dual expertise.
'Mischievous and bold' is how Fawaz Gruosi chooses to describe this piece that is a part of their 25th-year showcase collection. 'In order to unleash my creativity and make my dreams come true, I never take into account any commercial, financial or temporal constraints. Creativity is, therefore, a pure expression of passion”, he says.
When Fawaz Gruosi stamps his vision on time, he transforms it into gem-studded splendour, resulting in jewellery sculptures that tell the time. As the brand revisits their art jewellery pieces that set them apart and created a legacy in the last 25 years, we can't wait to find out what they have in store for us in the future!
