We spoke to celebrity stylist Aastha Sharma to help you cruise through the cardinal style rules that every groom (and his best men) should keep in mind. “There’s a lot of drastic shift in menswear. The market has become almost as big as womenswear and you will see that kind of change when it comes to weddings because men want to look good too for their special day. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to sherwanis or even western wear with different cuts, prints, colours and fabrics available. I just feel that Indian grooms have adapted to the various options in the market and experimenting much more than they used to,” she says.

So, here are her picks of things to remember before picking out a wedding ensemble:

Don’t be afraid of colour

No, you don't always have to stick to the same ol' navy blue, black or grey palette for your formals or beige for the sherwani. Experiment with colours, prints and even fabric textures to finalise an outfit that is just right.

Aastha agrees. She says, 'Play around with colours. Use a lot of prints, play around with the fabric depending on the location of your wedding and silhouettes. So, see what works for your body type and skin tone. Pay attention to those things.'

Double, triple check the fitting

This adage holds true for every ensemble, regardless of the gender. Ill-fitting clothing can make you look unkempt and may even be uncomfortable to wear. For your special day, it is only right that you are thorough with the measurements. Aastha says, 'Fitting for menswear is extremely important. I cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure your outfit is perfectly fitted because that can make or break your ensemble.'

Don’t underestimate the power of accessories

Beaded multilayered necklaces, brooches, bracelets or even watches - pairing your ensemble with a set of great jewels and the right accessories is a sure-shot way to instantly elevate a look. Aastha says, 'The power of accessorising is often underrated among grooms. You have so many options in the market, so, see what accessories you can add to your outfit. Add that with basic grooming and you're done!'
