Between all the frenzy of planning your fairy tale wedding, looking into last-minute details and dealing with all the emotions that a wedding brings with it—it wouldn’t do much harm to take some time off with your beau. Although you may not have the luxury of taking too long of a break before the wedding shenanigans, we’d definitely recommend taking a short trip for a quick, romantic escape. Here's a list of destinations that make the cut and are just as romance-worthy.
If the two of you love nothing more than waking up to the sounds of nature and being surrounded by lush greenery, then Meghalaya is definitely the place for you. Located in Northeastern India, Meghalaya is home to gorgeous landscapes, waterfalls, and diverse flora and fauna such as the clouded leopard, elephant, gaur and sambar, residing in the state’s sub-tropical forests. You can also take in the sights of the living roots bridges or go boating in the crystal clear waters of the River Umngot. Hike up to the many waterfalls here, and give yourselves a much-needed digital detox and time away from the din of city life. Book a stay at the Polo Orchid Resort, the rustic but luxe Ri Kynjai- Serenity by the Lake, or Courtyard by Marriot for a warm and romantic few days. Shillong is also a thrilling city to visit.
Here’s one for all the sand-in-the-hair and lover of tan lines kind of couple. Puducherry is a quaint city and a former French colony, just a short drive away from Chennai. Here, you’ll find the perfect blend of sandy beaches, stunning blue ocean and historic by-lanes, perfect for some afternoon cycling. Visit the old White Town, that is home to colourful heritage buildings and restaurants serving Indo-French cuisine. You can stay at any of the town’s boutique hotels such as The Promenade or Le Dupleix. Don’t skip a visit to Auroville, a beautiful township just an hour away from the main city, built with an emphasis on yoga and sustainable, mindful living.
If you’re a history and culture buff, then Jaipur should make it to your list. Immerse yourself in the Pink City of Rajasthan, as you explore its many palaces, baolis or stepwells and traditional havelis. Head to the local bazaars, especially Johri Bazaar, that offer some great shopping, from jewellery and clothes to trinkets and colourful knick knacks. Don’t miss out on the local lassi and kachoris that the city is famous for. Indulge in a typical Rajasthani thali and experience the state's renowned hospitality. With a host of hotels to pick from, luxuriate your senses with a stay at The Oberoi Rajvilas, The Lalit, or even Rambagh Palace.
Go to Dubai for the perfect blend of impressive skylines for the city and sunset lovers, recreational activities to satisfy the adventure bug in you or just to indulge in some decadent food and pamper yourself with some retail therapy. Dubai is everything romantic and luxurious and ideal for a quick getaway from country. Besides visiting the regular sights, you can also choose to go glamping in the desert, sky-diving at Palm Jumeirah or visit the city's many museums and mosques. There's something for everyone. And to make it a tad bit more romantic, we'd definitely recommend a candle-light dinner at a roof-top restaurant. You can book a stay at The Atlantis, The Taj Jumeirah Lake Towers, or even the JW Mariott Marquis Hotel.
Sun, sand, palm trees, blue waters and decadent cuisine—what more do you need? Head over to Sri Lanka for a getaway to remember. Indulge in local curries and delicious seafood, drive along the coast as you go beach-hopping and visit surfer-cool destinations. You can stay at a tea plantation, go glamping, or even head out for a safari to spot some leopards at the famed Yala National Park. Make a pit-stop in the capital city, Colombo, for a dose of culture, art and heritage. You can stay at the Wild Coast Tented Lodge or Taj Bentota Resort and Spa, among many other options.
