Shantnu & Nikhil present couture collection ‘Capella’ for brides at FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week

Inspired by the Baroque Era, the collection embraced maximalism and opulence of the early 17th century

Shantnu & Nikhil closed day one of the ongoing FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, showcasing a collection titled ‘Capella’, named after the brightest star in the galaxy. The collection embraced the opulence of the Baroque Era and its majestic artifacts--the chandeliers.

Like layers and layers of light, dazzling up a room, it celebrated a woman’s incredible femininity and her strength, while keeping their love for reminiscence alive.

Actor Kriti Sanon walked the ramp with oodles of confidence while wearing a mint-julep lehenga, adorned with pristine regal stones and muted bullion thread. The prismatic crystals and chandelier like chains were inspired by the Palace of Versailles and they shone bright as the Capella. Speaking about the collection, the designer duo said, “We’ve always been fascinated with history and the grandeur it holds. Our work has always denoted a passion in reviving nostalgia and retelling stories that are long forgotten. After over two decades of designing haute-couture, it wasn’t surprising that we were looking for a new outlet: a Shantnu & Nikhil bride who redefines bridal couture through the prism of historical abundance. Capella, named after the brightest star in the sky does exactly that.”

The collection matches the extravagance of the early 17th century--from translucent organza fabric to gold-spun suiting. An ode to the magnificent interiors of a Baroque palace, Capella saw an array of colours merging from blush-pink, off-white to mint-gold. It showcased a lot of stones and crystals work to command the attention on the bride, just like a chandelier does in a palace. There was a revisit to tiers of tulle and veil to accentuate the sensuous richness and the beauty of movement. To keep the authenticity of the art alive, the designers used baroque lace embroidered in dori work. A bride wearing an ensemble from Capella is sure to feel special, just like the brightest star in the galaxy.
