5 celebs who ditched red for pastel hues on their big day

Brides-to-be, take note!

Red has been the go-to colour for brides on their wedding since time immemorial—the colour symbolises new beginnings, prosperity, and passion, making it the perfect candidate for bridal attire. But, with a change in perception and wanting to do things differently, many modern brides have chosen to pick lighter, gentler hues like blush, ivory, and lavender. Ahead, from Alia Bhatt to Anushka Ranjan, discover the A-listers who donned pastel tones on their big day.

Ivory
Richa Chaddha

Richa Chaddha, who married Ali Fazal last year in an intimate ceremony in Lucknow, wore a dreamy ivory gharara set by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, which came with detailed chikankari embroidery—a nod to the couple’s ancestry. The outfit, which matched with Fazal’s cream sherwani, featured a heavy dupatta as well that was covered in intricate mirror work, similar to the bodice. Chaddha finished the look with emerald and polka jewellery, oozing plenty of Nawabi charm.

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt was another star who tied the knot last year and chose to go the ivory route. For the big day, she ditched the usual lehenga for an exquisite saree by Sabyasachi Mukherjee that had a matching half-sleeved blouse. The organza saree had delicate tilla work all over and came with an embellished hand-woven tissue veil, as explained by the designer on Instagram.

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Tuscany wedding was what got us all dreaming about having a D-day as grand as that! And Sharma’s elaborate Sabyasachi Mukherjee lehenga that she chose to wear for the rituals definitely had something to do with it. A mesmerising blush colour, it was covered in renaissance embroidery and had British shades embellished with silver and gold thread, beads, and pearls. To complete the look, she chose matching jewellery with diamonds and pale pink pearls from Sabyasachi’s jewellery collection.

Mira Rajput

Before Anushka Sharma and Neha Dhupia inspired thousands of brides to pick pink for their big day, It was Mira Rajput, who wore the pastel shade when she got married to actor Shahid Kapoor back in 2015. By designer Anamika Khanna, the pale pink outfit came with a short-sleeved blouse and a skirt that featured delicate embroidery, embedded flowers, pearls, and zardozi work. And for a change, instead of wearing just one dupatta, as is customary, Rajput donned two dupattas—one worn as a sari and one covering her head.

Anushka Ranjan, who got married to Aditya Seal in late 2021, donned a stunning lavender lehenga for her wedding. Designed by Mohini Chabria, it featured a short midriff-baring choli with sheer quarter length sleeves featuring sequins and embroidery, a plunging U-shaped neckline, and tassels. The matching lehenga also had heavy silver embroidery throughout. She completed the look with a matching embroidered sheer dupatta draped on her head.
