The last time I wore this sari was in 2016, for my brother’s wedding ceremony in Chicago. The outfit is such a head-turner that it requires minimal styling—I usually pair it with statement earrings or a chunky necklace, and a big bindi for added impact. My ‘wedding style’ is fluid, and I enjoy mixing the modern with traditional; I like pieces that are natural conversation starters. I have always been partial to the sari, and seek out opportunities to wear one. I have worn my mother’s engagement sari several times in the past, and it remains one of my most prized possessions.”

“I’m wearing a silk sari that was gifted to me by Julahaa Sarees as a karwachauth gift. The last time
I wore this piece was for a Diwali event in the USA, where I was cooking Indian food for the American guests and representing our culture. I remember styling it with a pashmeena shawl, a rani haar, and a pretty, pink potli. For me, comfort is key, and my style tends to follow the same rule. For Indian functions, I prefer wearing kurtas with pretty dupattas, and would nearly always pick them over saris. “I am wearing an outfit by Jayanti Reddy, purchased from a store in New York called Terra India. This particular store is owned by a friend, and I love supporting both the designer and the boutique as they are such talented entrepreneurs. I love the contrast of the gold top against the gorgeous work on the silk-red skirt—it is such a regal piece, in my opinion. I remember wearing this outfit to a Diwali ball in New York, and I styled it quite simply, with a gold choker from my jewellery label L’ Dezen, along with a sharp winged liner. This ensured the outfit and the jewellery remained the heroes of my look. At weddings, you’ll nearly always see me in a fun lehenga. I love how comfortable lehengas are to walk around and dance in. I tend to pick high-waist styles, which are incredibly flattering. And I like wearing my hair in a simple way, while emphasising on the accessories.”

“I am wearing an Astha Narang floral, organza, printed sari, draped over a lehenga as a dupatta. I am also wearing one of my mother’s stackable gold rings with little diamonds in them—the piece was passed on from my grandmother, and was a part of her wedding band. More recently, I had similar rings made in different metals (rose gold, blackened gold, and silver) so I can stack them all up. I love that these rings are subtle and go with every item in my wardrobe. I am drawn to simple but fun outfits, and my go-to style is a classic lehenga teamed with a beaded blouse. I like clothes that allow me to move freely, and because I tend to wear high-but-comfortable heels, I can hide them under a big, poufy skirt. My styling tip for Indianwear is to ensure everything is pinned and tucked in as tightly as possible. If you’re wearing a maang tikka, some double sided-tape will serve as your best friend.”

“I am wearing a pink lehenga from Label Vandana Malhotra, that is in a weightless silk fabric and features delicate hand embroidery. The last time I wore this piece was to a friend’s wedding, and I had styled it with a long, embroidered dupatta, a polki necklace, and earrings with hanging rubies. I am a maximalist when it comes to wedding looks, and I lean towards lehengas teamed with striking jewellery. The polki necklace I am wearing here is an inherited piece. It was crafted in Pakistan, for my grandmother’s wedding, and was later passed on to me on my wedding day. I accessorise most of my weddingwear with large, statement jewellery, and will usually throw in a classic handbag for an elegant finish.”
