Here's how you can have a mindful wedding morning

Eat, drink, and be married.

The eve of a wedding day comes with its bandwagon of jitters, nervousness, and excitement. It’s often said that the big day is one filled with frenzied chaos, and does indeed go by in what feels like a whirlwind. But truth be told, the day that you’ve dreamt for years and have been planning for months has finally arrived and you want to remember it without feeling like it went by in a blink of an eye; you want to be present in every moment, feeling every emotion you can because days like these don’t come around all too often. We’re here to help you with some mindfulness activities that you can practice before your wedding day so that you can be calm, composed, and present on your big day. Read on to know more.

Meditate and practice self-compassion

We hope you’ve gotten a good night’s rest and more than enough sleep the night before your big day. Wake up early the next morning to spend some much-needed quality time with yourself. As you wake up to get out of bed, keep your eyes closed for a few moments, and take in the day that is to be, allow yourself to feel, and be compassionate with your emotions and mind. Practicing a few minutes of meditation will also help you to be mindful and present throughout the day. Follow a guided meditation that is easily available online or sit down in a comfortable position and practice a few deep breaths. We promise you’ll be smiley, energised and absolutely ready to take on the day, and enjoy every second of it.

Journal: Write your affirmations and set your intentions for the day

Right after you meditate and get on with the rest of your to-do list before the ceremony, take some time to quickly note down a few affirmations and feelings on your phone to help understand, accept, and process everything that you’re going through. What would help even more is, grabbing a diary and pen, and really sitting down with your thoughts—describe what emotions you’re feeling and how you expect the day to go. You can also list down some positive affirmations like, ‘Today as I begin my day, I wish myself peace and compassion,’ or ‘The ceremony will run smoothly, with warmth and intimacy.’ Manifest the experience you wish to have, and believe in it all you can—we promise it’ll be nothing short of magical.

Spend time with your closest friends and family

As you get on with the rest of the morning before the wedding, keep your dearest ones extremely near to you. Friends and family will always be there to help you overcome those nervous jitters and the overthinking mind. Recall the intense planning discussions, chaotic dance rehearsals, and fill your morning with good conversations, love, light, warmth and laughter and only good vibes, surrounded by those who are most excited for the ensuing ceremony and occasion. Don’t fret over the pending to-do list or worry your mind over every organisational detail—whatever will be, will be. As long as you’re happy, there’s little anyone has to be worried about.

Listen to music while you get ready

Your wedding lehenga and jewellery have been kept neatly by the mirror in your room. So, here’s a pro tip: curate yourself a get-ready playlist with all the songs that you may want to listen to before you take those pheras or say I do. In their latest Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan, Meghan Markle stated that all she wanted to do in the hours before her wedding was eat a croissant, have a mimosa, and listen to Going to the Chapel by The Dixie Cups. Our recommendations? Create a mix of high-energy songs like Marry You by Bruno Mars or Honey, Honey by ABBA along with the sweet and warm ones like Din Shagna Da or Kabira. Here’s your cue to do exactly what you think will make you calm, refreshed, and relaxed.

Eat mindfully

Be sure to treat yourself to a good breakfast—satisfy all those cravings to make you feel happy as ever. Eating mindfully comprises host of things—from not having any distraction while eating (ahem, so no answering calls or messages—even if it’s from your better half), to taking your time to chew and finish your meal, and practice gratitude for the meal on your table. Such mindful eating habits will not only enable a happier and healthier mindset, but also give you the bridal glow that you need on the day.
