Is it advisable to use lip-plumping products on your wedding day?

Experts weigh in.

A wedding is one of the most memorable days in an individual’s life. And a lot of work goes behind ensuring a smooth-running function—from putting together the dream look and adding a personal touch to the ceremonies, to looking radiant, the couple pulls out all the stops on their wedding day.

Most brides know exactly what their make-up should look like. Some brides may go for the trending ‘natural look’, while some may wish to enhance their facial features like lips, eyes, etc. One common and popular practice is making lips look fuller with lip plumpers. Some even choose to have lip fillers injected to get a more permanent result. Cosmetic lip plumpers give instant effects and temporary results.

The trend for brides to opt for lip-plumpers on their wedding day is rising. While it enhances the look temporarily, is it worth using a lip plumper on your D-day? Let’s find out.

It can cause irritation

If you have sensitive skin, using a lip plumper can cause irritation. Sometimes, the ingredients used in a lip-plumping product may result in itching or redness on your lips. Also, since you need a lip product that lasts long on the wedding day, it is better to opt for traditional lipstick and lip liner than any lip-plumping product.

It has a good chance of making your lips dry

Although they give your lips a fuller, juicer look, lip plumpers can strip off your lip’s moisture. Remember, you will be wearing your make-up for long hours and may not get time to touch it up. Hence, it is best to opt for hydrating lip products and apply a generous amount of lip balm to ensure your lips remain hydrated and still look plump throughout the ceremonies.

You can experience swelling

When you use lip plumper, you will experience a tingling sensation on your lips. If you have not used any lip plumper before, you can even feel a burning sensation, sometimes leading to swelling. You certainly do not want swollen lips on your wedding day; keeping the experiments for later.

However, not all lip-plumping products are harmful for your lips. If you wish to get a fuller effect on your lips, you must start taking care of your lips a couple of months in advance. Regular exfoliating, lip-masking, and using the right lip balm will keep your lips nourished and plump. Also, talk to your make-up artist and get the best suggestions for your look for the big day. You can always opt for a gloss if you want that plump and luscious look without using lip-plumping products.
