Expert-Approved Nighttime Skincare Routine For Brides-To-Be

Dr Geetika Mittal, Isaac Wellness, Dr Simal Soin, Aayna Clinic, and Dr Pooja Chhabra, Co-founder Nuskay, give their expert opinion on skincare for brides and suggest a nighttime routine for brides-to-be.

It's of heightened importance for brides to nurture and nourish their skin regularly. While a morning skincare routine is essential to start your day on a clean and fresh note, a nighttime skincare routine is equally important. 'A morning routine should be focused on protecting your skin against sun and free radical damage as you plan to step outside, whereas, a night routine should be focused on repairing and re-energising your skin, as the regenerative properties of the skin take place while you are asleep', says Dr Pooja Chabbra.

It's not easy being a brides-to-be, especially when you want to look your best on your big day. While a nighttime skincare routine can be followed by one-and-all, brides-to-be must consider taking greater care of their skin prior to their wedding. Brides Today spoke to three dermatologists and skin specialists, namely Dr Geetika Mittal, Dr Simal Soin and Dr Pooja Chabbra, who have recommended a nighttime skincare routine for the flawless and glowing bride. Here we reveal their hidden beauty secrets and cardinal skincare rules that work their magic overnight:

DO A CLEANSE

'To get rid of the day’s grime, tiredness, dirt, oil and makeup; it is recommended that you remove your makeup with a dedicated makeup remover before washing your face with a gentle cleanser,' says Dr Simal Soin, Aayna Clinic. The skin is subjected to extreme harm when it is exposed to dirt that is allowed to sit overnight. Thereby, making it essential to clean the face properly before going to bed. Micellar water or an oil based cleanser can be used to remove makeup, followed by a ph-balanced face-wash.

TONE AND EXFOLIATE

'Exfoliate twice a week with ingredients such as active charcoal, as it can pull out all the dirt and excess sebum from the skin,' suggests Dr Pooja Chhabra, Co-founder Nuskay. One should also use an alcohol-free toner to remove excess dirt, traces of oil and makeup, correct and balance the pH of your skin, and help control acne.

USE A FACE MASK

Besides being an excellent way to draw out the impurities from the skin, the correct face mask also helps retain moisture in the skin, along with improving the appearance of your pores. While Dr Pooja Chhabra advocates the use of a soothing face mask that contains ingredients such as rose and chamomile for irritated and tired skin, Dr Simal Soin recommends using a hydrating cream mask or face oil to boost hydration for dry skin. Dr Geetika Mittal, Isaac Wellness states that, 'A hydrating serum containing ingredients such as AHA & BHA may also be used to maximise hydration'.

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN

Moisturising the skin is a critical step in the process, in order to avoid chronic dryness and other skin conditions. 'Alternate between Retinol and Vitamin C each night, starting on a low concentration,' suggests Dr Geetika Mittal. Night creams are typically heavier and thicker, as compared to day creams, with the purpose of nourishing the skin completely when absorbed overnight.

APPLY EYE CREAM

Last but not the least, an eye cream must be used to protect the sensitive area around the eyes. Dr Pooja Chhabra points out the benefits of using an eye cream when it comes to fighting dark circles and wrinkles.

It's important to protect the skin from pollutants and dirt, and replenish your skin with essential nutrients at the end of a long and tiring day. A few important steps, if followed, will surely yield noticeable results days before your wedding. To get the dewy and flawless skin you always dreamt of, follow this expert-approved beauty regimen prior to your D-day.
