7 Ways to Tighten, Brighten and Smoothen Your Skin with Coffee

Perk up your skin with a shot of caffeine. Do you need another reason to reach out for coffee?

Does getting through morning seem difficult without a steaming cup of coffee or when mid-afternoon slump hits, you blindly reach out for coffee again? If you can’t do without coffee, here’s another reason why you should reach out for it more often. Coffee and caffeine are now part of many beauty products due to their tightening and antioxidant effects on the skin. Caffeine, which is the main ingredient in coffee works on skin in three ways: as a vasoconstrictor, an antioxidant, and a diuretic. Caffeine which is mainly used in cellulite creams, dehydrates fat cells, making the skin smoother. It's also used in de-puffing eye creams as a vasoconstrictor, to temporarily tighten skin and reduce dark circles. To know more about the benefits of coffee for your skin we spoke to Tarun Sharma, Co-Founder & CEO mCaffeine India's first caffeinated personal care brand. He further explains how coffee can do wonders for your skin

1. Exfoliates the skin

Ground coffee beans make a great physical exfoliant. Since it doesn't dissolve in water like sugar or salt, it is perfect for scrubbing away that dust, grime, and dead skin cells. Exfoliation helps in unclogging the pores to remove toxins and improves overall skin texture by making it softer and smoother. Exfoliating on a regular basis will make your skin look healthy.

2. Reduces puffiness

Caffeine stimulates blood flow and widens, or dilates, the blood vessels. This increases blood flow, which tightens the skin naturally. This results in reduction of the buildup of fluid under the eyes.

3. Drives away dark circles

Caffeine helps the microcirculation of blood in the skin, which is why it also helps decrease discoloration underneath the eyes, but this is only for short term.

4.  Reduces redness and inflammation

Coffee is widely known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It can soothe inflammation and redness caused by skin conditions or sun exposure.

5. Cuts down on cellulite

Coffee helps reduce the cellulite. Caffeine in coffee is the key to cellulite reduction, it dilates blood vessels beneath the skin and improves overall blood flow, which in turn decreases the appearance of cellulite. This cellulite reduction is observed more with coffee scrub as exfoliation smoothens the skin and provides an even appearance.

6. Fights sun exposure concerns

Coffee is loaded with antioxidants which fight off the free radicals and help treat sun-exposed skin. Whether you have developed redness, tanning, or other effects of UVA and UVB damage like uneven skin tone, sunburn, premature ageing--coffee possesses the strongest antioxidants for your post-sun care.

7. Fights Acne

In the case of a wound or frequent skin infections, the regular use of coffee can combat problems from harmful bacteria. The CGAs in coffee have both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
