Prepping For Your Wedding? Here’s What You Need to Do for Glowing Skin and Lustrous Hair

An expert shares minor tweaks for big gains!

Are you looking for a way to look your best on the big day? Are pre-bridal diets tempting you to lose weight to look and feel great on your wedding day? Healthy food recipes, exercise videos, tips for daily motivation, they are everywhere these days, but how reliable are they? These thoughts must have crossed your mind several times.

To help you prep for the D Day, we asked Simrun Chopra, deep health coach and founder of Nourish With Sim to suggest a diet and fitness routine that will help you achieve radiant, glowing clear skin and healthy hair. “Working towards your holistic well-being with the help of exercise and nutrition is what shows on your skin and hair. When our nutrient needs are met and our body has the time and resources to recover and regenerate, we see it in our skin. A proper bridal routine should be built to help you look and “feel” your best on your big day. The best way to do this is to begin your fitness and nutrition regime 3 to 6 months ahead of the big day. Most people try last-minute with extreme crash diets. This has a negative impact on your hormonal and reproductive health, which is not what you want,” says Simrun.

She suggests you increase your intake of vegetables, especially dark leafy greens, and fruits. "It’s always a great idea to consume seasonal fruits that are in abundance around you. If you are looking for better skin and hair, ensure you are getting adequate protein, Omega 3, and are not deficient in any of the key vitamins. Focus on your water intake and make sure you get sufficient sleep. The two things that are commonly disregarded but have the largest impact. It’s called “beauty sleep” for a reason," she advises.

Start a regular fitness routine if you haven’t already. According to Simrun, exercise tightens the skin, tones the muscles, and acts as a brilliant stress buster. With all the wedding prep going on around you, time may be a luxury but you need to focus on is getting in 30 minutes of exercise a day.

"Bid goodbye to processed foods as much as possible. Eat small meals at frequent intervals. Did you know that it takes a while for your stomach to send the message to your brain that it’s full? If you chew slowly and eat slowly, you’ll know when you are full," she adds.

Simrun shares a quick cheat sheet that will help you reach your fitness goals and also look your best when you exchange your vows.

1. Stay active through the day.

2. Add a generous portion of vegetables to each meal.

3. Make sure you are getting enough lean protein.

4. Focus on nutrient-dense foods.

5. Get in a 30-minute workout every day. It can be at any time, wherever you are.

7. Get adequate sleep.

8. Drink lots of water. At least 2 – 3 litres a day.

9. Check for deficiencies and let your health coach know about them.
