Your Handy Guide To DIY Home Decor For The Sustainable Bride

Bored in the house and in the house bored? Try out these fun ways to re-purpose your furniture.

If your home is your zen space, beautifying your space can be your meditation! Shifting a table here, moving a lamp there...small changes in your personal space can totally change the ambience. So, if you are looking to switch things up the sustainable way through repurposing and DIY-ing your decor, here's help.

'When it comes to DIY projects, only your imagination is the limit. One of my favourites is to paint a chalkboard in kitchens or kids’ rooms. This is a fun alternative to sticking magnets on the refrigerator and gives you more scope for creativity,' says celebrity interior designer Anuradha Aggarwal, founder of Olives Cre.

Check out her suggestions to give your home a makeover the eco-friendly way:

'If you like collecting wine bottles, you can use them as flower vases. You can also utilize corks to create a DIY jewellery stand. All you have to do is grab a flat piece of wood, some paint, corks, and resin glue. Then you can stick the painted cork pieces on the wooden board and voila! You have a jewellery stand,' says Anuradha.

Arty canvases

'Another one of my favourite DIY projects is to create text canvases. What I mean by that is that you take a piece of canvas, write your favourite quotes, lines from books or song lyrics on it, and then hang it up on an otherwise boring wall to add a personal touch and to make it look stylistically appealing as well,' she says.

Wooden table

'A quick way to upgrade your old wooden retro table is by just taking the top off. Place a smoothened, varnished log slice over it to add a natural touch to your space.'

Upcycled nightstand

'You can also cut an old table in half, paint it new and place it next to your bed against the wall to use it as a nightstand.'

Bring out the paints

'There are very few things paint can’t fix. Take an old piece of furniture, paint it new using the reverse stencil method and you’ll have an extraordinary decoration piece.'
