10 Things You Should Do Before Going to Bed and Right After Waking Up!

From sipping on apple cider vinegar for glowing skin to limiting screen-time before hitting the bed, Pooja Bedi, actor and founder of Happy Soul shares her go-to sleep-wake routine for a healthy and happy you.

According to sources, 16% of people in India believe that they suffer from insomnia and a whooping 80% of people feel sleepy at work 1-3 days in a week!

Given the stressful, trying times that we live in today, along with the invasion of technology and a fast-paced lifestyle, somehow these figures don't seem all that alarming. But all in all, life is far too short to be tired all the time and we don't have the luxury to spend an extra minute in bed no more!

So, to tackle this grave concern and fight the sleeplessness battle head on, Pooja Bedi shares some super-easy hacks that you'll definitely thank her for.

From consciously making healthier food choices to kickstart your day to reciting a small but effective gratitude prayer at night, listen up folks!

5 Things to Do Just Before Going to Bed

'First and foremost, make a conscious effort to try and put down your electronic gadgets at least 30 minutes before hitting the bed. The blue light emitted by our phones restricts the production of the hormone that controls our sleep cycle! Thereby, to achieve high-quality sleep and wake up bright and early, limit your screen-time before bed.'

'Why not have your last text message be a positive one? Express affection, love or gratitude to any one person or more. There's nothing better than ending your day on a happy note!'

'After a long, tiring day, take a shower with a few mugs of Himalayan salt water to cleanse negativity and refresh your aura. Besides, it's super relaxing.'

'Light a lavender soy wax candle and inhale its soothing, calming and relaxing properties while you sip on a cup of sleep-inducing chamomile tea.'

'Last but not the least, as you lay in bed, recite a small gratitude prayer. Alternatively, you could jot down at least five good things that happened in your day and seven things you're grateful for, in a gratitude journal. This tiny note makes us aware of all the blessings that we have in life. A good meal, a fun conversation, friends, parents, a pet, an opportunity, a compliment... it could really be anything.'

5 Things to Do Right After You Wake Up

'The first thing you must do when you wake up is to set a positive intention for a fantastic day ahead. And, smile wide before you open your eyes! Do this to start the day off on a good note.'

'Once you get out of bed, wake your body up by stretching every muscle and every limb, from your fingers to your toes.'

'Next, sip on a cup of warm water mixed with apple cider vinegar to clear away the toxins from your system. The secret to soft, supple, glowing skin...here it is!'

'Following that, take a tablespoon of cold-pressed virgin coconut oil. As many of you may already be aware, coconut oil offers a bunch of health benefits, from boosting the immune system to reducing the risk of heart diseases.'

'To finish off your morning routine, consume a steaming hot cup of your favorite tea. Try and skip on sugar and opt for a healthier alternative like palm sugar instead!'
