The Free-Spirited Aditi Rao Hydari Opens Up About How To Get That Natural Glow From Within

"If you're empathetic, sensitive, and kind, you automatically feel better, happier, and more beautiful."

The artiste, who turns thirty-two later this month, has been shuttling between Tollywood and Bollywood since she was twenty. “I will probably be shooting in London on my birthday. I am okay with that. I like being on set. I love working,” she says. That work ethic shines through her oeuvre, and the accolades it has won her; later, that evening, Hydari won the Best Supporting Actor (Female) award for Padmaavat at IIFA Awards 2019.

Speaking of jewellery, what kind do you like? I really love heirloom jewellery—the older it is, the better. And the more classic it gets, the more I’m drawn towards it. There is something about different proportions that to me is extremely beautiful and just so perfect.

How would you describe your personal style?

I don’t think I really have a particular kind of style but I do think whatever it is that I am wearing, I want to feel like I woke up like that. I always like to be effortless regardless of what I am wearing—be it a gown or gallons of jewellery. I want [what I wear] to feel like it’s a part of me and don’t want another person intimidated by it.

What is the one beauty secret that you swear by?

Nothing replaces genuine happiness, and I think if you’re empathetic, sensitive, and kind, you automatically feel better, happier, and more beautiful. Also, I think that choosing to be happy makes you beautiful. I’m convinced that happiness is a choice you make and it is the only beauty secret I can tell you that is constant. Everything else changes with the weather.

Three things on your wish list?

Time at home, a holiday, and lots of work that I am excited about.
