BT Exclusive: Ananya Panday Opens Up About Her Dream Wedding

Fresh-faced bridal muse, Ananya Panday talks about romance and her dream to have two (!) big-fat Indian weddings.

What was your parents’ love story?

My mom met my dad when she was 21. They met at a night club and got married six months later. It’s really sweet. But my mom keeps telling me not to fall in love and to focus on my work right now.

What does your dream wedding look like?

I’m actually going to have two weddings. One will be in Udaipur and it’s going to be like Kalki’s [Koechlin] in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. A really big party with all my friends, family, and other industry people. A week later, we’ll go to a beach somewhere like the Bahamas or Maldives for a smaller ceremony.

Name some of your other favourite movies from the ’90s.

Growing up, I mostly watched Hindi movies, so Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai; later, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

What songs would you like to dance to at your sangeet?

I’m going to be that bride who dances to her own songs. Hopefully I’ll have done so many movies by then that I can perform for an hour.

What are the top three songs currently on your playlist?

Makhna from the movie Drive; a slightly older song is Woh Ajnabee; and Din Shagna Da is one of my current favourite songs.

Do you believe in romance?

Obviously. I love all things soppy, sappy, and cheesy. Random acts of love like surprises and letters. I definitely want to meet someone who will do all of that for me.

What are some of your favourite romantic movies?

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Of course, all the Dharma Productions movies. Crazy, Stupid, Love, 10 Things I Hate About You…I could go on.

Do you believe in online dating apps?

I believe in love at first sight, swipe, and love over time. It can happen anytime.

Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

I want to be at the top of my game. I’m so lucky that I started out young—I can afford to make mistakes and grow. Nobody is perfect, it’s better to start raw and develop. But I also want my normal life at the same time.
