Ace that resort fashion look on your honeymoon

From sexy, sheer cover-ups to co-ords and light fabrics, fashion experts share advice for a hashtag-hot holiday.

Your big, fat wedding is finally over. After a slew of gorgeous celebrations - that mark the end of all that detailed prep of the last few months - you’re now on your way to your honeymoon. But don’t sit back and savour the spoils of your bridal dreams just yet, for looking beautiful on your honeymoon is just as important. Sure, it’s a relaxed, unhurried time for you and your partner, but it’s also intimate and special and will have memories for a lifetime. Slay the look on each day with a few smart fashion choices. Here’s how to make it a time to remember…

Sheer and light
Whether you’ve zeroed in on scenic Maldives, the Greek islands of love or even budget-friendly Thailand – first things first: get a hold on the right suitcase size that will hold all your personal style goals and fit into the baggage limit, too! Outfits in the right fabrics go a long way to do that. Nupur Kanoi, founder of her eponymous resort wear brand, has an extensive understanding of fabrics. She recommends, “Lightweight cottons, crepes and georgettes,” as they do not require much ironing and easily lose wrinkles once left out to hang. “A few sheer lace and satin lingerie slip dresses are also a must to slip into while lounging; these also works well when layered,” she adds.

Try cover-ups
Bikini-shy, are you? If you’ve always desired to wear that swimwear, but held back, we’ll flash the green light with a chic solution – just wear a stylish cover up. Slip into the sexiest swimsuit you own, throw on a dainty kimono or sarong, a few beaded baubles and you’ve got a chic layered look. To add some drama and further create a flirty fit, play with contrasting colours as you plan a sunset date by the bay.

Kaveri, Kaftan Dress

Go with the flow
This is your honeymoon, where you want to enjoy every moment. If you’ve taken in the sights, swam, snorkeled and dined out, chill around in something that’s ideal for the pace of things – a kaftan. Flowy, fuss-free kaftan dresses have been making a crossover into occasion wear so you can wear it almost anywhere on your honeymoon, from the beach to a drive out around the town! Kaveri Lalchand, founder of the linen clothing brand Kaveri, dishes out some kaftan advice as she states, “The point of a kaftan is to be stylish, feel sexy and yet be comfortable. Pastels and brights both work here as do bold prints. Carry loose-fitting kaftans that you can slip in and out of easily.”

Play matchy-matchy
Post the pandemic, the co-ord look has grabbed its own fan base, for comfort and being equally flattering and forgiving for all body types. Wearing a co-ord also does away with the worry of having to worry about separates. Choose a style that matches the place you are in, perhaps neutrals and pastels in the day and co-ordinated sequins or shimmer at night. If it’s a beachside holiday, opt for a playful take on your ensemble with bustier tops and matching sarong wraps or even a good, old oversized shirt over a bandeau bikini paired with your favourite denim booties.

What not to resort to
There are a few no-nos to keep in mind, too. Kaveri lists out a few. “Anything tight and form-fitting that compromises the comfort factor, for one. Also, avoid high heels if lots of walking is involved. Enjoy the dressing up, but keep it simple so that more time is spent on the experience,” she suggests. And go easy on elaborate make-up because you’re bound to enjoy the sun and all its dewy magic. Lastly, celebrity designer Nupur’s line of advice rings out: “Resort wear is most forgiving for all body types.” So, lose all those inhibitions and savour your sexy time with your loved one on your honeymoon.
