Real Weddings: Love at First Swipe

"Our story began behind the screens of our phones. After dating for 2 years, he finally popped the question and we tied the knot in Sri Lanka a month before lockdown!"

Anshita and Gautham first met on a dating app and tied the knot 2 years later, on February 2020, at a breathtaking location in Sri Lanka. This union was planned and beautifully executed by Castles & Coasters.

    How did you two meet?

"I used to believe that every great relationship begins with a great origin story, like hitting it off with the person who happens to be seated next to you on an airplane or meeting the love of your life when you both reach for the same book at a bookstore. Well, our story began behind the screens of our phones. Gautham and I met on a dating app and dating online, more often than not, involves deflecting cheesy pickup lines from over-served guys. However, that's far from what we had. We were smitten in love for the next two years until the day he finally popped the question! Our families are completely different, Punjabi vs. South Indian, so it was quite an interesting journey, and more to come I suppose..."

Was there a formal proposal? Tell us more.

"Yes! It was a surprise proposal at the place we first met each other. Although I did have an inkling of what was in store for me, he made it all the more special. He invited all my friends to take part in this unforgettable moment and it was all too dreamy!"

Any anecdotes or memorable moments from your big day that you'd like to share?

"Undoubtedly, my favourite memory is the grand Bollywood-style mehendi entry that was planned for us. With the colour bombs going off in the air and my own personal paparazzi on a beautiful rooftop setting, it truly felt like a celebrity moment! Surreal, at the least."

    Any advice for brides-to-be?

"Even though you may not be able to achieve the wedding of your dreams, due to the pandemic, just remember that you're with the one you love and that's all that really matters."

How are you both spending time during lockdown?

"I guess it was a blessing in disguise for us, in a way. We got lucky as we were able to spend time setting up our new home together, exploring one another's goofy habits, and most of all, cooking! A date night with food and wine hasn't gone amiss."
