Buttered or toasted, if you love snacking on a slice of bread, here's how to add an extra kick!
While bread might be a regular breakfast staple, you can also give the slices a delicious upgrade for a healthy mid-evening snack.
According to holistic nutritionist Shikha Mahajan, it is important to keep your body fueled rather than opting for a crash diet to meet your fitness goals.
"Remember to take cheat meals to keep temptation away. Most people who avoid cheat meals end up bingeing on a lot larger quantity than the cheat meal would have been. In the face of temptation remind yourself that you can have that again, on your next scheduled cheat day," she says.
Here are her recipe suggestions for a healthy bread snack:
"You can start by creating simple guacamole by mixing ½ an avocado mash, chopped tomato, onions and lemon juice. Place this on a whole grain toast and add some baby spinach for a quick sandwich."
Eggs, Olives On a Toast
"Boil and mash 2 eggs, add salt and pepper. Put between wholegrain toasts along with olives, tomato, cucumber and lettuce. Enjoy!"
Peppered Mushroom Toast
"Slice 5-6 mushrooms and stir fry. Add salt pepper. Add 3-4 tbsp. chopper bell peppers, stir fry for another minute. Add olives and put between wholegrain bread slices. Grill the sandwich till crisp."
