5 Beauty Brands That Celebrate Inclusivity

From Rihanna's Fenty Beauty launch to diverse campaigns from Milk Makeup, these are the beauty brands that effortlessly promote diversity.

Inclusivity has become a topic of discussion in recent years, in both fashion and beauty. Awareness about marginalized groups has increased and with it have come brands that want to make a change to the whitewashed, female-centric beauty industry, bringing it with them a plethora of colourful products to suit anyone and everyone on the spectrum.

1. M.A.C Cosmetics

Even though Fenty Beauty is famously known as the champion of inclusivity, it is not the first brand to do so. M.A.C Cosmetics had more than 40 shades in their Studio Fix Foundation range, and almost 50 shades in their powder foundation and over 30 shades of concealer. Recently, they extended their foundation range, reaching a staggering 60 shades. M.A.C has always been about diversity, even being one of the first brands to hire non-female makeup artists in their stores.

2. Milk Makeup

Milk Makeup is a brand that believes makeup is for everyone and is a form of self-expression. Their products are cutting edge, and come in unisex packaging. One of their products, the Blur Stick, plays on the metaphor, to blur lines and welcome everyone on the gender fluidity spectrum. An added benefit is that their products are vegan and cruelty-free, something people today are making a conscious decision to use.

3. Fluide Beauty

This brand broke barriers when it came out and launched itself as a queer, sparkly brand for the gender non-conforming and genderfluid community. Fluide is trying to bring that sensibility into the beauty industry. Their models are diverse, their products are bold and bright, their colours are named after iconic LGBTQ+ locations and 5% of profits are donated to LGBTQ+ organizations. Fluide isn't just celebrating, they're promoting, creating awareness and that's what sets them apart.

4. Becca Cosmetics

From its inception, Becca has been a brand focused on making products that fit all. With their 50-50 split policy, their foundation range is unique with 50% of shades that fall into the light-medium category and the other 50% in the medium-deep which allows them to cater to everyone regardless of skin tone. They are also known to have the largest range of highlighters, something no other brand boasts of.

5. Fenty Beauty

When Rihanna declared the launch of Fenty Beauty, dropping 40 shades of foundation, she sparked a shift in the makeup industry. Before that, there were other brands in the diversity conversation, but the struggle to find the right shade for people of colour persisted. Created with the promise of inclusion, the Pro Filt’r Longwear Foundation boasts that the lightest shade can suit someone with albinism, while the darkest shade can match even the deepest skin-tone.
