 Expert-approved recipes for gorgeous hair sans the salon visits

Ever since social distancing started, salon visits have become impossible, hair regimes have been /hurled off track. And we wouldn’t be surprised if your Goolge searches have all been about “how to cut bangs at home”, “root touch ups” or “ways to get gorgeous hair”. Mane concern is real. Though it may seem difficult to get salon like hair at home, it isn’t. All you need is some genius hair masks to banish dandruff, arrest hair fall, get dazzling shine and softness. The upside is we don’t have to order anything online. You just look into your kitchen for hero ingredients.

Since picking the right ingredients for the masks could be confusing, we get experts to put together effective recipes for different hair problems.

DIY Mask for Dandruff

“The main cause for dandruff is a dry scalp and this can be very irritable as the scalp needs nourishment and moisture. The best way to provide this by giving it a really good old massage,” says Chandni Kamdar, Technical Trainer, John Paul Mitchell Systems India. She suggests a simple three ingredient oil mask for the scalp.

Squeeze one lemon Add 4-5 tablespoons of coconut oil Add a teaspoon of camphor powder Mix this till the camphor dissolves

Once done apply this mask on your hair. Focus on the scalp and massage it in a circular motion. After the massage wrap your hair with a warm towel for 30 minutes and wash it off with a mild shampoo.

DIY Mask for Limp Hair

Limp hair is a sign of undernourishment. To regain the glossy texture, you need apply a moisturizing mask. Kamdar suggests the following mask made from banana, tea tree oil and honey.

Start by mashing one banana Add a bit of honey and tea tree oil.

Method: Mix all the ingredients and apply it on your scalp and work your way down to the strands. Keep this mask on for 20 minutes and wash it off with a mild shampoo.

Diy Mask for Frizzy Hair

You get frizz when the hair is dry and lacks moisture. And when there is humidity around, matters worsen. Sheetu Gupta, owner, Ozone Luxury Salon, GK 1, New Delhi, says, yoghurt masks can fix the frizz. She recommends the following mask.

Take yoghurt in a bowl Add fenugreek seeds to it and leave it for 3-4 hours.

Apply the mixture on your hair starting from the roots to the end of the strands. Keep it on for 2-3 hours and then rinse it. It removes the frizz and makes the hair soft and smooth.

DIY Mask for Oily Scalp

“An oily scalp at times can result in irritation and itching along with dull hair. Living in a tropical country, this is one of the most common hair issue in the summer months when the scalp produces more sweat and oil,” says Kamdar. She picks tea tree oil for this hair condition.

In a small bowl add two tablespoons of baking soda 4 tablespoons of water 4-6 drops of tea tree oil

The acidic quality of baking soda here will help in soaking the oils and also helps in promoting hair growth. Apply the concoction to your scalp.
