Mirror Skin: 3 Ways to Get Glossy, Dewy Skin

Just like the soft and glistening skin advocated by the Glass Skin and Dumpling Skin trends, here's how you can get the perfectly moisturised, glowing Mirror Skin!

Want #nofilter flawless skin? Well, get on the Mirror Skin trend.

Just like its predecessors Glass and Dumpling skin trends, the new #skincaregoals is all about having dewy, healthy skin that is almost reflective like a mirror. While you can achieve your Mirror Skin selfie with the concealer-highlighter route, having a healthy diet and beauty routine can make sure you get the mirror lewk naturally.

Here's what the experts have to say:

Eat your way to good skin

You are what you eat. So, to glow from the outside, you need to fuel your insides with nutrient-rich, healthy food. Also, watch out for certain foods such as dairy, gluten, sugar and food with a high glycemic index that often cause acne breakouts and other beauty issues. Holistic dietitian Shikha Mahajan says, "When we consume any nutrient, our body utilizes it to heal the internal body and organs, and the bones and lean tissue. Once all of this is healed, then the excess nutrients are used for the skin, hair and nails. This is why most doctors look at your skin and tell you if you are undernourished. Acne, pigmentation and wrinkles mean that your body does not have an abundance of micronutrients, and will anytime fall short if there’s a physical stressor. Often skin problems are a sign of bad digestion, liver problems, or even IBS. While we often just visit a dermatologist for our skin issues, it is wise to meet a gastro specialist or dietitian for these issues."

Double cleanse

Depending on your skin type and the amount of makeup or sunscreen you wear during the day, make sure to double-cleanse before you get to bed. Celebrity dermatologist Dr Chytra V Anand says, "Even under normal circumstances, a dermatologist usually advises that you cleanse your face twice, especially at night. The first cleanse is to remove your makeup so you can do this using makeup removal wipes or a makeup remover on a cotton pad such as micellar water. The second cleanse is using a pH balanced gentle skin cleanser on your face and washing it off with water." However, do not use harsh cleansers that damage your skin's natural moisture barriers. Ideally, an oil-based cleanser followed by your regular gentle cleanser should be enough for most people.

Exfoliate once a week

Chemically exfoliating your skin with AHA BHA toners according to your skin type can show immediate results. They gently slough away the dull skin, leaving you with soft, glowing skin. Dr Anand adds, "For gentle removal of debris and dead skin, chemical exfoliators such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, Glucono Delta Lactone are used. You must avoid any kind of harsh scrubs. Even fruit enzymes from papaya or pineapple can help exfoliate the skin gently. You can exfoliate your skin in a circular movement at least 2 to 3 times a week."

Moisturiser is for every skin type!

Whether you are oily or combination or dry skin type, everyone needs a little moisture boost. A well-moisturised skin is key to achieve the reflective, dewy mirror skin effect. While dry skin types can dabble with slugging, other skin types can get their moisture boost from hyaluronic acid creams or a light moisturiser. "Use a ceramide based moisturizer so that it can repair the skin barrier and give you day-long protection. At night use a heavier moisturizer if your skin feels dry or flaky. The moisturizer should be applied on the face the neck, under the eyes and on your lip area. If you have oily or combination skin type, then use a lightweight moisturizer but if you have normal to dry skin use a heavier moisturizer," says Dr Anand.
